Chris Rock admits he’s not a great cook, and he adds a good point about assisting the cook at dinnertime. Here are a few simple ways anyone can help at dinner even if they don’t cook.
If there are guests coming, you can help set up and take down extra chairs and tables. You can clean and cut vegetables for the salad or veggie tray. Setting the table is always appreciated. You can get everyone’s drink on the table. You can open the wine bottle(s) if wine is being served.
After dinner, you can clear the table and put leftovers away. Don’t wait for hot food to cool before putting it in the fridge. Allowing food to cool on the counter gives bacteria the chance to multiply.
Of course, you can always put a smile on the cook’s face by volunteering to do the dishes after dinner.
I’m sure there are other ways to help at dinner time that don’t involve cooking. If you’re the cook. tell us some of the things your guests have helped you with (or you wish they had).
